The Biogas Programme is implemented by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, to promote clean and sustainable energy in rural areas. The Department of Rural Development, Dadra & Nagar Haveli is the Implementing Agency for this programme.
The programme supports the installation of biogas plants of different sizes for households, farmers, institutions, and community organizations. Biogas produced from cattle dung, organic waste and other feedstock can be used for cooking, lighting, small power generation and thermal applications. The slurry from the plants is also a good organic manure for agriculture.
Availability of clean fuel for cooking and household use
Reduction in dependence on firewood and LPG
Better sanitation and waste management
Production of enriched organic manure
Environmental benefits through reduction in greenhouse gases
The Government of India provides Central Financial Assistance (subsidy) to beneficiaries for setting up biogas plants. The subsidy amount depends on the size of the plant, category of beneficiary (General / SC / ST), and geographical area (General / Hilly / North-Eastern / Island).
Interested beneficiaries may approach the Gram Panchayat / District Panchayat, Dadra & Nagar Haveli. Applications will be processed as per MNRE guidelines and approved models.
